REBECCA READER SHARES HER READING TOOLS

Rebecca Reader, our reading friend came today to share her reading tools with us! She said we will be good readers if we...
1.  Always use our finger to track the words on the page.
2.  Use our eyes to look at each word.
3.  Get our mouth ready for the first letter of each word.
4. Look at the pictures for clues.
We put words together and made a sentence we could all read.  Rebecca Reader was very surprised how well we can read!!

Individual student pictures will be taken on Thursday, September 27.  Be sure to wear your best SMILE!!! If you have any questions, please contact the Carver Kindergarten office at 398-0060.

ZERO THE HERO!!!

Zero the Hero is an important part of our daily routines. His purpose is to introduce the children to the concept of place value in a fun, exciting way. He comes every time we have a zero in the number of days we've been in school. Each day during calendar time we add a DOG  AND PAPER CLIP to our daily count of how many days we've been in school. Zero the Hero helps us learn about the importance of zeros in numbers.
Today is the 20th day of school and here is Jayda, our Zero the Hero!!!!!

OUR SUPER STAR

Joshua, our Super Star this week, is so excited to take Clifford's backpack home for the weekend!!!  We know he'll take good care of Clifford!!!

FLY PIE!!!!

Another fun day learning about rhyming words!!!  We learned about real frogs, made frog hats and best of all,  ate "fly-pie"!!!  It was yummy!!!
The ability to recognize and produce rhyming words is an important phonological awareness skill. Research indicates there is a correlation between phonological awareness and a child's reading ability.  What you can do to help at home...1. reading nursery rhymes, 2. playing rhyming games, 3. reading books about poems.

The students were so excited to wear their "crazy" socks and make fox hats after listening to the story,
 Fox in Socks.
We paraded around our school in our socks and fox hats too!!!
What a wacky & fun way to reinforce rhyming words on Wednesday!!!!
